Face Validity and Computer Vision in Physical Therapy

How do we know an iPhone App can accurately measure the Clinical Test of Sensory Integration and Balance (CTSIB).

From Condition One (eyes open, firm surface) to Condition Six (visual conflict, unstable surface) the task grows more difficult and we would expect the Trunk Sway (vertical axis) to increase.

Trunk Sway is the inverse of the Equilibrium Score which decreases from left to right; just as we see with standard CTSIB testing using the following technologies:

  • Pen-and-paper CTSIB
  • Force plate CTSIB (Bertec, Biodex or NeuroCom)

We say this demonstrates Face Validity if the VisualPT.ai iPhone app – the easiest type test psychometric to demonstrate. Other types of test psychometrics we hope to show with the iPhone CTSIB:

  • Intra-tester reliability
  • Inter-tester reliability

You get a 1-year license to use the app for free (a $600 dollar value) if you agree to use the app and share your data (app will collect the data automatically).
